This is the Takara version of what was known as Hoist in the United States (and the rest of the Hasbro world). Hoist (Or "Grap, Super Mode") is the rebuilt version of Armada Smokescreen after a calamitous battle with Megatron resulted in his destruction.
The difference mainly lies in the smokey-grey plastic used (As opposed to the brownish plastic used on Hoist). Both versions feature a face that is strangely reminiscent of Beast Wars Dinobot. The Minicon that came with this set has a name that escapes me, but looks weirdly like an insecticon.
