Plier is one of a series of Minicons released in Japan as Micron Boosters. Part of the third series, Micron boosters were a series of blind-packed Minicons that were sold for about 300 yen each (try about 3 bucks given today's conversion rate). They were quite successful, but were a bit annoying to acquire in the west.
I was lucky to have found a box full of this series of Minicons in Akihabara. There are quite a few good repaints in this series and I plan on covering them all - but none was as interesting to me as Plier. A repaint of the Reverb/Bumper minicon from Cybertron/Galaxy Force, he transforms from a truck to a robot. More interesting, he sports a paint job very reminiscent of Scourge/Black Convoy. If only there was a teal highlight, it would have been impossible to say otherwise!
Plier definitely stands out from the rest of the minicons I acquired - and I love the hell out of the guy. Definitely worth picking up if you see him cheap.
